February Island {Galveston}

Preston and I spent a lovely February weekend on Galveston Island.

 Friday night after work and traffic we loaded up Sweet Lou (our little SUV) and headed South 45 miles to this coastal town. We stayed two blocks from the ocean in the "Tree House Cottage", a charming and quiet historical house built in the 1920's.

Sunrise on East Beach

Saturday morning we woke up early to catch a glimpse of sunrise on East Beach.  After a delicious breakfast by chef Preston and a quick stop at Goodwill (where I found some cat eye sunglasses) we explored Galveston Island State Park. Preston rented a 1.4X extender for his lens to try his hand at bird photography at the state park. By this time we were very hungry and decided to eat at one of our favorite places for lunch - Olympia Grill on the Seawall - this place is always delicious. We spent the rest of the day playing on the beach with our setters, shopping and dinner on the strand, and a friendly game of mini golf of course! Let me just say that Preston amazed me with his putt putt skills. Sunday morning before we headed back to Houston we tried some GREAT coffee from Mod (my favorite is called "Holly") and and made some new friends at Galveston's Own Farmer's market. Here is a glimpse into the perfect Galveston getaway weekend, loved every minute of it!!

Preston and I went on a day trip to Galveston!

 It is really neat living 45 minutes away from this island. We had a fun time walking along the seawall and exploring the historic Strand in Downtown Galveston. I have to say my favorite time to visit Galveston is in November when the beaches are quiet and the only ones brave enough to swim in the cold sea are the seagulls. This time of year Galveston is teeming with life and lots of humidity!

Where the Buffalo Roam :: Part 1

Preston and I went on an amazing adventure in Wyoming and Montana. We hiked up mountains, looked for wildlife, and met neat people from different parts of the United States. The first night we arrived we went "glamping" at Yellowstone Under Canvas, keeping warm at night by a wood burning stove. The tiny town of West Yellowstone had the best homemade ice cream we have ever eaten. I have never seen so many beautiful places in one week and this blog post is my feeble attempt to share the beauty of God's breathtaking creation with you.
